Expanded steel sheet (ESS)
–– steel sheet with cells, which are formed by simultaneous cutting and stretching. It is mainly used for the installation of grating in industrial construction - walkways, staircases, service platforms. Compared to solid steel sheet, it has such advantages as light weight, anti-slip surface, permeability to dirt, snow, water... Today expanded metal sheets are manufactured with different types of cells - diamond-shaped, hexagonal, square, decorative. Most commonly the flooring is made of 4 and 5 mm thick sheets. Expanded steel sheet is manufactured based on the general standard GOST 8706-78.
Under the USSR despite a number of disadvantages expanded metal sheets were virtually the only material for the manufacture of gratings for industrial and civil construction. However, in modern conditions, expanded metal sheets are already an obsolete material, since a new product has appeared for such purposes – –steel grating or mesh grating.
More information about the advantages of steel grating is given in the corresponding sections of our website: Welded grating, Pressed grating, "Serrated" grating. Why do our Clients choose steel grating rather than expanded metal sheets? It's all that simple!
- ZRN grating can withstand dramatically heavier loads, which is ideal for both industrial facilities and civil construction, especially in crowded places.
- Unlike ESS, installation is much easier and saves time.
- Galvanized grating has the best anti-corrosion properties for long-lasting performance.
- It meets all safety standards and has ideal anti-slip properties.
- An impressive aesthetic appearance, which is why today gratings appear frequently in various design projects.
However, the most convincing fact in our opinion is that in Europe expanded metal sheets are currently not used at all for the manufacture of gratings, stair treads and the construction of pedestrian zones. And for safety reasons in many countries ESS is generally strictly forbidden to be used for such purposes.
If you are still interested in expanded metal sheets, please contact us and we will select the best grating option for your needs.
And remember - arranging a pedestrian area or making a staircase from expanded metal is in fact not at all cheaper than using a grating. Lower cost of ESS is just a myth today. If you want to become convinced – please visit the"Plant of platform gratings" or contact our managers.
